Reed Devil Boss Guide: Totems, Clones, and Chapter 3 Strategy
Reed Devil is Crimson Desert's Chapter 3 skill check — a fast swordsman whose phase two totems grant invulnerability. How to parry, break totems, and win.
The Reed Devil is the first real skill check in Crimson Desert’s main story — a fast swordsman you fight in the middle of Chapter 3, after tracking him through an army of minions from the Reedfield Graves up to the grass fields of Reedwind Valley. He was tough enough at launch to get nerfed afterward; even post-nerf he punishes sloppy fundamentals.
Before the fight
- The trail to Reedwind Valley is itself a battle — you fight through his minions on the mountain path, so bring plenty of food and slot it on your consumables wheel before you start tracking.
- Refine your weapons and armor at the Hernand smithy — it is cheap, and this fight is tuned tightly enough to notice.
- There is an Abyss Cresset on the hill next to the arena — activate it for a fast-travel point and an extra Abyss Artifact before pulling the boss.
Phase 1: parry the flurries
- His melee strings hit multiple times, but one successful parry cancels the whole combo — parry the first hit you read, not the last.
- When he throws sword waves and projectiles at range, dodge side to side — your i-frames carry you through the volleys.
- His teleport attack is the one move to respect — parry it whenever you can read the reappear.
Phase 2: totems and clones
At the second health bar the fight changes completely: Reed Devil summons copies of himself and raises five totems across the field — and he is completely invulnerable until all five totems are destroyed.
- Ignore the clones; burn the totems first. Focused Shot and Charged Shot destroy them from range while keeping you away from the copies.
- Slashing Wave and Crimson Slash cannot be blocked — sidestep them; shielding here is a health tax.
- Once the last totem falls, the fight returns to phase-one rules — parry, punish, done.
